Sleep is a funny thing in our society. many view lack of sleep as a sign of productivity. Young doctors and lawyers will tell you about 90 hour weeks and staying up for 6 days on 4 hours sleep. But did you know Sleep deprivation mimics many elements of the aging process. One could make the argument that how you feel when you are sleep deprived is likely how you will feel if you are both diabetic and old (sleep deprivation dramatically impacts insulin sensitivity). Improved sleep time and quality will help you: Lean out, avoid depression, autoimmunity, heart diseaseā¦it might even help you be a better athlete. Work and family are what they are, but if you are not getting adequate sleep you will suffer. What will help? Exercise, a good diet aare a start. Get rid of the nightcap and sleeping pills and try to get to bed at the same time every night. naps can help, but sleeping late on weekends can not make up for sleep lost. Who knows? Sleep may be the thing that puts you over the edge performance wise!
